The 2010 World Cup in South Africa is under six months away now and I’m sure everyone is getting excited at this point. The first few games of the World Cup will take place on June 11th 2010 so make sure you mark this date down on your calendar. We’re going to take a look at everything you need to know about the World Cup below starting with the groupings for the event.

With odds already posted on most sportsbooks you can begin doing your homework on each team and making your bets. Every year the first bet I always make is on the 1-2 teams I think will win the entire World Cup. These bets often pay great odds and they’re very fun to watch throughout the World Cup. Don’t bet on the clear favourite to win the World Cup as there is no value and the team rarely wins it all.
After making a wager or two on what team you think will win the entire 2010 World Cup betting pool, you should check out the match-ups for the first round. In the first round there are always going to be some upsets so make sure you tread lightly and never risk your entire bankroll on one game. England, Germany, Netherlands, Italy and Spain all look like they should have a fairly clear path to the second round and I would be looking to bet on them in the first round. They will of course have fairly bad odds since they’re favourites, but if you’d like you can try parlaying 2+ games on the same ticket to make the odds better.
Once the second round starts it becomes more difficult to cap the games, but the odds are always a lot better. There won’t really be many big favourites in the second round and it will make the juice a lot more affordable. A couple quick tips that you should keep in mind when betting on the World Cup is that you don’t want to bet on every game and you don’t need to always make straight wagers. There are plenty of other types of bets you can make and some online sportsbooks will even be offering live betting throughout the World Cup.
With the world cup odds posted on most online sportsbooks now is the time to start looking at the matches. The odds right now are the best they’ll most likely be since most of the action won’t be coming in from the public until June. You can find some great value in some teams right now simply because nobody has been backing them yet which has kept their odds at a great level. Of course if you’re going to be mainly betting on underdogs to win you’re better off waiting for the odds to get even bigger. Once the public money rolls in on the favourite it will help the odds for the underdog become juicier.
